1st gen with 2nd gen price
Don't buy
I just replaced my first generation Apple Air Tag
Just purchased a second generation Apple Air Tag. My cat lost the first one. People are complaining about the first generation tag. I don't understand why because I preferred the first generation tag. I don't find this one as effective as the first. My cat was wearing the tag and standing 5 feet from me and the app couldn't find him!
Gen 2 AirTags
I read the previous reviews that people got the 1st Gen AirTags so when I went to buy them using my points today. I made sure they were 2nd Gen and they were, said so on the back of the package so I'm happy :)

False/misleading advertising - these are discontinued Gen 1
Just bought these today (April 19th, 2026), wish I had read the reviews here before. These are absolutely the first generation Airtags released in 2021, and not the current ones released in Jan 2026. Look for the model A2187 on the label on the back of the package. Shoppers is listing as the regular price for these discontinued tags the current list price for the new devices. These will work, but totally misleading advertising.
GEN 1
First of all they offer perks like free apple TV, music etc if you order through the APP but once you download the APP you realize you can't even order off of it and just gave them your data for no reason. MOST IMPORTANT the product number is Item #190199320260 If you research you can find that this is GEN 1 but it is priced as Gen 2. Every other store has these for 98$ and Loblaws is charging 30$ more for the old ones. Plus they don't make it easy to notice this because they cleverly have not put Gen 1 in the info (nor have they done Gen 2). Many people will buy the Gen 1 here for the price at Gen 2 even though everyone else has the old ones on sale because they are being discontinued. I find these blatant falsehoods horrific.
Price of 2nd gen
This has the price of Airtags 2 but seems to be the 1st gen
