Life Brand<font size="1">&reg;</font> introduces new sun care products

This summer, it’s possible to protect the skin AND get a healthyglow

Life Brand® introduces new sun care products offering broad spectrum protection, after sun soothers, and sunless tanning

As summer approaches and the sun’s rays get stronger, it’s time to start thinking about sun protection to prevent skin damage and help slow down the signs of agingWith growing concerns about harmful ultraviolet rays, the multi-million dollar sun care category is expected to grow at a healthy rate over the next five years.  In Canada alone, sales of sun protection products exceeded $128 million in xxxx, with self-tanning products ringing in at $33.6 million and after-sun products topping $9 million*, an indicator that Canadians are listening and responding to the warnings by dermatologists and seeking safer ways to achieve that sought-after summer glow.  In response to Canadians’ concerns about skin damage, Shoppers Drug Mart introduces a new range of affordable and effective products for sun protection, after-sun care and sunless tanning, all under the trusted Life Brand® label.

“With the new sun care products from Life Brand, we will provide convenient, affordable and effective sun protection for the whole family,” says Morne Van Wyk, Senior Vice President, Corporate & Exclusive Brands, Shoppers Drug Mart.  The lineup features broad spectrum UVA/UVB lip balm (SPF 30) and oil-free sunscreen lotions (SPF 30 and 45), soothing after sun moisturizers and gels and a no-mess, continuous spray self-tanner to ensure a perfect application every time.  “With these new additions, Shoppers Drug Mart continues to offer an unbeatable selection of products to meet the varying sun care needs of Canadians,” adds Van Wyk.

Broad Spectrum Protection

The new Life Brand sun protection products feature non-greasy, water-resistant formulas with broad spectrum ultraviolet (UV) ray protection, which means they protect against two types of rays: UVA and UVB.  “Most of us are familiar with UVB rays as they cause skin damage we can see almost immediately – like when your skin starts burning and turns red,” says Van Wyk.  “But UVA rays are far more harmful – they are the long rays that penetrate through the skin and cause longer-term damage.”  UV skin damage is the main cause in the development of skin cancer and premature skin aging.  Broad spectrum protection is available in Life Brand Sunthera3 SPF 30 Lip Balm ($9.99) and Life Brand Oil-Free Sunscreen Lotions in SPF 30 and SPF 45 ($11.99).

After Sun Care

It’s not only important to protect the skin while in the sun, but also to take care of the skin after a day outside.  Life Brand offers three soothing, new after-sun products, competitively priced at $6.99 each.  Life Brand After Sun Aloe Moisturizer replenishes moisture lost due to the effects of the sun, wind and water, with a calming aromatherapy formula that contains exotic extracts blended with the pure essence of tropical White Ginger, Aloe Vera, Chamomile and Ginseng to soothe the skin.  For an instant soothing and cooling effect, try Life Brand After Sun Aloe Vera Gel or Life Brand After Sun Soothing Gel with Lidocaine for pain relief.

Get the Glow without the Sun

Life Brand Smooth Bronze Self-Tanning Continuous Spray ($13.99) delivers professional results at home.  No matter what the angle, this spray creates an even mist for a no-mess, streak-free application.  The no-rub formula dries quickly and evenly for an all-over natural looking tan.  Colour begins to develop in an hour and can be easily maintained by reapplying every two or three days.
