Works much better than the old model
After taking it apart to "clean" it, I realized I didn't need to. The electrodes are made of carbon and shed any buildup, and the large holes in the bottom of the "steam" housing allow the debris to just fall away, so no maintenance needed. Not bad for this price.
Enough for one room. Fast heating and evaporated
Worked for only 1 week.
I bought this assuming it was a basic humidifier, warm mist and the same as the Vicks brand. It worked for 1 week and quit working. Water changed regularly as well.
buy a different product
Bought this on Friday through it away on Sunday the unit gets so hot that it will melt or burn wood surfaces followed the instructions water started coming out the steam vents ruined the surface it was on and it was so hot I needed oven mits to move it
Buyer Beware
I purchased this humidifier for my 1-year old to run overnight in his room, which tends to get very dry in the winter. I followed all of the instructions (fill to the water line and place on a flat, stable surface) and somehow it got so hot the water was forcefully boiling out of the unit where the steam was supposed to escape. It was so hot it completely destroyed our brand new shelving unit and I burned my hands trying to run it to the washroom to dump it in the tub. Good thing my little one woke up and I had to run into his bedroom to soothe him because had I not, we likely would have had a fire on our hands; if not from the unit burning the shelf, from the water leaking over into the electrical outlets on the other side of the shelf.

This vaporizer may be a fire hazard
We purchased this vaporizer when my husband was ill with a cold. We set up the vaporizer on a towel on top of a bedside table, and plugged it in as we have all similar vaporizers, adding a pinch of salt as instructed when it did not work properly. It worked only briefly and then we smelled an odd odour. We realized that both the towel AND the side table were burned from the vaporizer. I've since returned the machine but I am concerned that it may be a fire hazard if left on too long, or if the burning is not recognized soon enough.

Works
Works as described, I don't find it very loud. It's not completely silent but fairly quiet. If there's no steam, adding a bit of salt always does the trick. Been using it for months with no issues.
Life Brand 16 Warm Mist Vaporizer
This product is horrible. Twice the price vapourizers used to be at Shoppers' Drug Mart. Unlike the other people who have reviewed this product, my vapourizer worked. My problem: It off-gases terrible toxic chemicals due to the plastics involved in its construction. There is no way to get rid of, or prevent these toxic fumes. The buyers for Shoppers' need to consider their sourcing. The purpose of vapourizers is to help people with health issues. Not to poison them by toxic plastic off-gassing. Zero stars for this product.
No Mist, Very Loud
This product is completely ineffective, and after seeing about a dozen other reviews all complaining of no mist and an extremely loud motor, it seems it's just a defective product all around. Do not waste your money.
Complete Garbage
Do not buy this model of vaporizer! They've redesigned this warm mist vaporizer entirely. I've been buying Life brand warm mist vaporizers for years and they've always worked perfectly fine, always emitting plenty of steam (without having to add a pinch of salt to hard water which we have in the city), and easy to keep clean. This latest model (with red top), is absolute garbage. Did not work properly from the start, emitting very little steam or not at all. I followed the troubleshooting instructions, added a pinch of salt or two, it worked a little better briefly, then not at all. Gave up after trying to operate this piece of junk after only 2 weeks out of the box. Ridiculous cleaning instructions as well, as one can not possibly reach the tiny steam outlet with a toothpick (as per instructions) to dislodge any future calcium buildup because of the terrible design. Unfortunately, I bought this in early fall and used it for the first time 2 weeks ago, therefore, could not return it to Shoppers for a refund as one has 30 days from the purchase date to return items for a refund/exchange.
