OK after reading the reviews, I see how it swivels. Not sure why it does that BUT how do you clean it out?? I haven't even tried sharpening anything yet for that reason and can't find an answer or video.

It was not expensive, but yes it's difficult to open. Once opened though, it's fine. If you have nice nails, don't use your nails... use a nail file or letter opener or something else.

I just bought a $34 urban decay lip liner and this sharpener is wrecking it and breaking off the end. And as everyone else has mentioned impossible to open to empty it. Please take this out of your stores!

If I can give this a negative rating, I would. Yes, you can get it open, but only after a good wrestle. The "buttons: on the side of it are not buttons you can press. They allow the outer casing to swivel around to cover the open hole where you put the pencil in. It can be removed by putting your fingernails into the seams on either side of the hole. Pull outward and the outer casing can be popped off. To remove the shavings: on the inner case you can see the top end of the sharpener. There's slits there. Hold the top end of the sharpener and wriggle to get the top off. Now why am I giving this a low rating? It's not easy to open. It's not intuitive. And to top it off, the actual sharpener blade is so small and short, it prevents you from sharpening the pencil to a fine point. That's like the last straw. I mean once I figured out how to clean out the shavings, ok fine. But it doesn't even function as a sharpener. FAIL!

This is useless. Cannot figure out how to open. It should not be this difficult.

Once you figure out how to open the case and how to clean it, it is an amazing idea!

Frustrating! How do you open the darn thing!!
