Sturdy uncomplicated speaker with excellent sound.

Earlier this week we took delivery of our new Sony SRS-ULT10 Wireless speaker. Having had a couple of wireless speakers before in our family, we were hoping for an upgrade to quality and sound. The new speaker did not disappoint. Firstly, as you would expect from Sony, the speaker came well packaged... and protected from any possible transit damage. After unpacking the speaker, we realised we needed to charge it first before doing anything else. Whilst it was charging, we took the time to register our product online to get the full warranty support that Sony offer. They make this process very easy. Once the the speaker was registered and fully charged, and the charge time was about 4 x hours to reach full charge which is pretty average for a product like this, we read the online user manual via the Sony support website. Connecting the speaker, via Bluetooth, to our smart phones and IPads was simple and uncomplicated and the whole family now has access, which is great. So, down to the real issue of does it sound as good as the reviews we had seen. Initially, we were not sure it was an improvement on our existing speakers. Then, when you read the user manual properly, you realise it has an inbuilt equalizer which is operated via your smart device using the Sony music app which we had downloaded previously. Once we got to grips with this, we were able to create our preferred playback sound quality, and wow, did it reproduce quality sound for a small speaker. The speaker itself is small, but very solid and rugged and which we think contributes to the playback quality. We found that we don't need to use the ULT base increase button. We thought that was a tad too much and have not used it since. But that is a personal choice. After having used the speaker over the last week, we are pleased to comment that the speaker operates equally well at low, mid and high volume. There is no distortion and the sound is clear and very audible. So, if like my family, you want to purchase a speaker for use both indoors and outdoors, in all situations, we don't think you will be disappointed. Overall, as a family, we are very impressed by the build quality and sound reproduction of this speaker. The speaker is simple to operate, if you use the Sony music app and read the clear instruction manual online. In truth, we really cannot find anything to criticize about this latest Sony speaker. We haven't yet dropped it, or covered it in water and don't intend to, but that means we can't comment on how waterproof it really is, or whether it will withstand a heavy drop. By the feel and look of the speaker, we think all would be fine. We realised very quickly that the speaker is not designed for its looks, but for its durability and sound. Would we recommend this speaker? Yes we would, without hesitation. Overall, we think you would be very pleased if you purchased this speaker, for the use it was designed for.
