seriously helped lower my cholesterol
I'm a healthy, active 56 year old. My diet consists mainly of poultry, fish, seafood, whole grains, fresh fruits and veg and has been like that for the past 19 years. I'm physically active and am quite lean. When some family health issues prompted me to get my bloodwork done my LDL came back on the high side and my doctor simply recommended "lifestyle changes". Trust me, if what I'm doin' ain't cuttin' it, no amount of lifestyle changes were going to so I had her refer me to a cardiologist who agreed that I was likely predisposed due to my family history. In fact my cardiologist is in the same boat but he's actually vegan and runs marathons and yet the only thing to get his cholesterol in check was a statin, which he put himself on at the age of 40. So, on his recommendation I went on a low dose statin (10mg/day) but after 3 months that wasn't enough to bring my levels down to acceptable levels. That's when I added the plant sterols and blood tests 3 months after that had my cardiologist very impressed. He had wanted to up the statin dose but after seeing how the plant sterols had brought things to well within normal levels he said to just keep doing what I was doing. Unlike many medical professionals he asked me a bunch of questions about the specific product I was taking and, while he had read some studies on plant sterols, he vowed to look into it further.
